Satchel privacy policy
Version 1.1 · Last updated 19 October 2026
Who we are
Satchel is a family planner app operated from Dubai, United Arab Emirates. In this policy, “Satchel”, “we” and “us” mean the people who run the app. You can contact us at support@satchel.ae.
What we collect
- Your account: your email address (to send sign-in codes) and the first name you give us.
- Your family planner: your family name, who shares the planner with you, and for each child the name, class, chosen emoji and colour, and the weekly routine you enter.
- School updates you send us: emails you forward to your private Satchel address, and text, links, PDFs and screenshots you add in the app. We keep the text of each update so you can see the original. We don’t keep PDF or picture files after reading them, only the text read from them.
- What Satchel makes from them: the cards, dates, reminders and days off in your planner, and the stars and ticks you add.
- Basic usage records: the date each family opened the app (one record per family per day), and counts of how much reading each update needed. These help us keep Satchel working and affordable. They don’t include what your emails say.
We don’t ask for your phone number, location, contacts or payment details.
How we use it
- To read the school updates you send and turn them into your planner.
- To let the people you invite see and use the same planner.
- To send you sign-in codes.
- To keep the service secure, fix problems and understand, in totals only, how Satchel is used.
We use your data only to provide Satchel to you. We don’t use it for advertising, and we don’t sell it.
Children’s information
Satchel is for parents and carers, not for children. The details about your children (names, classes, routines) are entered by you and used only to sort school updates to the right child in your own planner.
Who processes your data for us
We use a small number of trusted services to run Satchel. They process data only on our instructions:
- Supabase stores your account and planner (servers in Frankfurt, Germany).
- Anthropic provides the AI that reads each school update you send. The content of that update is sent to Anthropic for reading and isn’t used to train their models. We ask for your OK before anything is read by AI, and you can turn it off in My account.
- Resend sends sign-in codes and receives the emails you forward to Satchel.
- Vercel hosts the Satchel website and app.
Some of these services process data outside the UAE (for example in the European Union and the United States). Where they do, we rely on their contractual and security commitments to protect it.
Who can see your planner
Only the people in your planner (you and, if you invite them, one other person) can see its children, cards, reminders and school updates. Each planner is separated from all others by access rules in our database. The people who run Satchel see totals for running the service (for example, how many families use it), not the contents of your emails or planner, except where you ask us for help and give us permission.
How long we keep it
We keep your data for as long as you have a Satchel account. When you delete your account, your sign-in and forwarding address are deleted straight away. If you were alone in your planner, the whole planner is deleted too; if someone else shares it, the planner stays with them. Deleted data may remain in our providers’ backups for up to 30 days before it is removed.
Your rights
Under UAE data protection law you can ask us to:
- show you the personal data we hold about you,
- correct it (you can edit most of it yourself in the app),
- delete it (you can do this yourself in the app),
- stop or limit some uses of it, or give you a copy to take elsewhere.
Email support@satchel.ae and we’ll reply within 30 days.
Keeping it safe
Data is encrypted when it travels between your phone and our services. Access to each planner is limited to its members, sign-in uses one-time codes instead of passwords, and the keys that connect Satchel to its services are kept on our servers, never in the app.
Changes to this policy
If we make important changes, we’ll tell you in the app before they take effect. The version and date at the top show when this policy last changed.
- Version 1.1, 19 October 2026: Satchel now asks for your OK before anything is read by AI, and you can turn it off in My account.
- Version 1.0, 18 October 2026: first published version.
